The bomber struck shortly after 12:10 p.m. local time on Friday, according to China’s state-run People’s Daily. Initially, it was thought that the explosion was caused by a gas leak in a government canteen. The building next to it also collapsed. Many are trapped inside the collapsed building.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that local authorities had sent a large team of 260 people and 50 vehicles to the scene to carry out the rescue operation.
The Chinese fire brigade said nine people had been rescued so far.

CCTV footage spread on social media showed a building collapsing in the Ulang district of the southwestern megacity. The surroundings are covered with smoke.
Gas leaks and explosions are common in China. In June last year, 25 people were killed in a gas explosion in China. Later, eight people, including the manager of the company that connected the gas pipeline, were arrested in the incident. In the same month, another 16 people died in a similar accident at a martial arts school.
